With parents like Beyonce and Jay-Z, you had to know that it wouldn’t be long before retailers would begin to cash in on baby “Blue Ivy’s” name. According to TMZ, multiple marijuana dispensaries in the Hollywood area have named their product after the couple’s daughter as seen in the picture above.
Bey and Jay recently filed paperwork with the courts to have their daughter’s name trademarked. The Washington Post is reporting that the couple filed paperwork with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on January 26th, to protect their baby’s name from those looking to cash in on her famous name.
Furthermore, they also plan to reserve her name for their own furniture line of baby products, including carriages, diaper bags, baby cosmetics, and other items. Unsurprisingly, the patent office has already been receiving requests to patent the name “Blue Ivy” which have been denied!
Fashion designer Joseph Mbeh submitted an application to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” for a line of children’s clothing that he was planning to pitch to Beyonce and Jay-Z, however his request was also denied.
While most of these requests have been shut down, one boutique in Wisconsin actually does have a trademark on the name “Blue Ivy” and they received approval in August 2011. What are the odds of that happening??? Sounds like there may be a leak in the organization!
I’m sure Bey and Jay went into hustle mode as soon as they found out they were pregnant, and began throwing around names. The baby’s name was planned well before she was born! I’m willing to bet that whoever the leak is has a deal with the boutique in Wisconsin. That’s just my theory, believe what you want…..
Anywho, be on the look out for “Blue Ivy” goods and apparel coming soon! Cha-ching!
